Celebrate the season of Advent

Celebrate the season of Advent

-Pastors Fred & Dorothy Ann Webster

The four Sundays prior to Christmas are traditionally observed as the Season of Advent. The word “Advent” comes from a Latin word “adventus” which means “coming,” and its biblical roots are the Greek word “parousia.” During these 4 weeks Christians are to spend time in prayer, penance, fasting and worship in preparation for the celebration of the birth of Christ.

For the church this is a season where we remember the birth of Christ AND wait for the return of Christ in glory. This dual message is seen in the first two Sundays which look forward to the second coming and the last two Sundays which remember the birth. It all culminates with the Christmas declaration on December 25, “Joy to the world, the Lord has come.”

There are a number of opportunities this Advent Season for us to participate in this time of preparation. Please come and invite your friends.
