Consider a three-day retreat

-Pastor Fred Webster

We have a number of people here at CUMC who have been on a Walk To Emmaus weekend and we are looking for more. This is a 72 hour short course in the Christian faith. There are talks by various clergy and laity about such things as Grace, Disciplines of discipleship, and what it means to be the church. Of course, the whole weekend is surrounded by prayer and meditation, special worship services and daily celebration of Holy Communion.

During this three-day retreat, the pilgrims meet in small groups (with a team member as a facilitator) to support and encourage each other. After the retreat is over participants are encouraged to continue to have a small group once they get home. They seek to bring their faith into all parts of their daily lives AND to find ways to be in ministry in their local congregations. “The three-day Emmaus experience and follow-up groups strengthen and renew Christian people as disciples of Jesus Christ and as active members of the body of Christ in mission to the world.”
(“What is Emmaus?” from the website http://newlifeemmaus.org).

How can you get involved? Each person must a have a sponsor who has previously gone on a Walk themselves. But that is not a problem because we will help you get a sponsor. Please contact Rev. Charles Betts or Rev. Dorothy Ann Webster for more information about how you can go on The Walk to Emmaus. All Walks begin Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. and go through Sunday to approximately 7:00 p.m. Please make reservations early as Walks fill up quickly.
