      Family Ministries hosts September Series

              -Ashley Sickles, Family Ministries Chair

The Family Ministry team has put together special speakers for the month of September, three on Wednesday evenings, and one special event on a Sunday evening, September 15. We hope you will plan on attending all of them, as each will present different, very valuable information.
Wednesday evenings in September, you will have the opportunity to hear from David and Rosie Kross, Jere Adcock, and Carol Ozier. All these classes will be held in the Sanctuary from 6 to 7 PM after Wednesday Nite Café. On September 11, David and Rosie will catch you up on what is going on with the youth, and let us know what we can do to help encourage the youth outside of the youth group. Then, on September 18, Jere Adcock (head football coach at DHS) will give us an insider’s perspective about what teens are up to in our schools—important information! Lastly, Carol Ozier will be speaking on September 25. Carol would like to lead a discussion about what “brand” your family is taking on, such as: “Controlled Chaos,” “Walking a Tightrope,” “Rooted in Christian Values,” etc. If you’re not feeling good about your brand, let’s figure out how we can move it in a different direction. This is a judgment-free zone as we support one another during challenging times.
Sunday, September 15, from 5:30pm to 7:00 PM, Patrick Caver will be leading his “Social Media and the Law” class at CUMC. Patrick Caver is a local lawyer and social media expert who offers this class to churches, schools, etc. free of charge. Whether you are a parent, a caregiver, someone who interacts with teenagers or just someone who cares about youth, this class is for you! Patrick will teach us how teens are using social media, how to discover risks and appropriate crisis responses, how to build and manage safe environments, and how to monitor social media content. This class will start promptly at 5:30 and be held in the fellowship hall.
You know that saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”? Well, we are a part of each other’s village! So even if you don’t have children at home, have no children, or are just getting started with babies, all of these classes pertain to you. We are a church family, and it is important that, as adults, we are informed about the younger generations so that we may be another encourager, supporter, Christian influence, and a positive person in these young people’s lives. Hope to see you there, and bring a friend!
